An incredibly special education
In the fall of 2010 Project Amigo initiated a special education program at the Queseria Migrant Labor Camp that gives children living with disabilities the opportunity to learn, to make new friends and to be part of their community. In a few short months the children have benefitted tremendously from an opportunity that was once an unobtainable dream for them and their families. The Special Education program employs an amazing teacher, Francisca Velazco, who is making a difference in the lives of her students. As a graduate of the University of Colima with a degree in Special Education, and a former recipient of a Project Amigo college scholarship, she gives more than just learning opportunities. She instills confidence and inspires self-esteem with the belief that despite their challenges these children have something to offer and share.
