Who We Help

It is hard to imagine the extent of our reach (yours and ours) via Project Amigo! You have the idea of what we're up to: a range of services focused primarily on education, but also helping with vision, dental and hearing so families can live healthy lives and see their children through to better futures. Now we'd love to introduce you to some of those we're helping:

Primary school students

Child labor laws and school attendance laws are often ignored in poor rural areas.  Children who might want to go to school, but who are sent to work for what little income they might earn, don’t have anyone in authority to count on to “make” them go.  Incentive programs offered by Project Amigo to kids who are enrolled in school are attractive enough that the parents send their children to school. Junior high and high school students

When a student graduates from sixth grade with a 9.0 or better grade average, wants to continue to study, but simply can’t for lack of financial resources, he or she may apply for a Project Amigo scholarship to attend junior high.  As long as the required grade average is maintained, the student complies with community service requirements and homework club attendance, the sky is the limit.  You can help a deserving student change his world. University students

And the big day has come!!  High school graduation, excellent grades, and a burning desire to achieve a profession.  Now what?  Apply to the University of Colima! Thanks to generous donations, many of our best and brightest students are able to realize that dream. Imagine the delight you’ll experience when a child you sponsor tosses that graduation cap in the air! A better life is ahead. Learn more...

Special needs students

Life is difficult when one lives in poverty.  Imagine how much more difficult life is for a poor rural family with a disabled child. One little boy’s eyes have brightened, and his body is full of life again since the “chance” discovery of this child by a volunteer who knew first-hand what the family was facing.   Learn more...

Migrant camp

The migrant camp established in Quesería to house migrant laborers from Mexico’s southern state of Guerrero has been part of Project Amigo’s world since 1997. We have improved access to education for children in the camp, built a school, and hired teachers—all with the goal of helping the children build a better life for their generation and the generations to come.
