2009 Literacy Work Week

“What a week! The opportunity to work, laugh and party with like-minded advocates of literacy was one of the best experiences of my life. I saw first-hand the power of Rotary International and it was inspiring and life-changing. Gracias to my new Rotary friends in Colima; and sombreros off to the Project Amigo staff. In every way, you enhanced our experience with your support, your professionalism, and sincere belief in Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.” Brad Sperry, Rotary Club of Wilbraham-Hampden.

“Thank you for this wonderful opportunity – this week has been full of friends, hard work and truly life-changing experiences. What a joy to read with children, and watch as they run waiving to the edge of the school yard to wish the AmigoBus and us farewell. A few of the highlights were: reading with children; my fellow New Englander, Brad; meeting the scholarship students and their families; being inspired by all around me; meeting the Mexican Rotarians; and so much more!” Andrea Curtis, daughter of Doug Curtis, Rotary Club of Rockland.

“It has been a privilege for us to spend “Literacy Week” with the Project Amigo team and fellow volunteers: a magical week with moments of awe, wonder and joy. We shall never forget the children and all that you do for them!” Michael Woolnough, MD, Rotary Club of Richmond (BC).

During their service week, the work week team delivered 11 of the 16 mini-libraries that were purchased with funds from a Rotary Matching Grant co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Francisco, the Club Rotario de Colima, and Rotary District 5150.
